Wisconsin sophomore defender Sam Brotherton added a trophy to his case over the weekend when the New Zealand national team won the OFC Nations Cup in a penalty shootout against Papua New Guinea.

Brotherton appeared in all five matches of the tournament, which New Zealand has now won a record five times in a row. San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Kip Colvey, a rookie out of Cal Poly, was also in the team.

Brotherton made 17 appearances in his freshman season with Wisconsin. Prior to arriving in Madison, he played in the U20 World Cup for New Zealand.
