Wake Forest didn’t allow a goal in five spring matches

Wake Forest’s defense held strong during its five-game spring slate with five clean sheets.

The Demon Deacons went 5-0-0 in their spring matches with wins over Virginia Tech, UNC Greensboro, Kentucky, Elon and VCU. They outscored opponents 10-0.

Steven Echevarria led the team with three goals while Jacori Hayes and Ian Harkes each had two a piece. Hank Gauger, Jared Odenbeck and Tane Gent added goals.

Though not officially part of their spring season, Wake Forest shut out all three opponents they faced on a spring break trip to Italy too. They beat a team of Atletico Madrid trialists 3-0, Real Madrid’s U18s 3-0 and UE Cornella’s U19s 1-0 on the trip.

Wake held opponents scoreless in half of their games in the fall, picking up 11 clean sheets in 22 matches, including two in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament against Charlotte and Indiana.
