UCLA Faces Tough Road Tests With Maryland, Georgetown In Week 2

You can’t accuse the UCLA of padding their non-conference schedule this season as they follow up a tough test against New Mexico in week 1 with a road trip to the Beltway to take on No. 6 Maryland and No. 12 Georgetown.

The top-ranked Bruins will open the regular season at a sold out Ludwig Field in College Park Friday night against the talented young Terps and one of the most boisterous supporters sections in all of college soccer (live on BTN at 7 p.m. Eastern).

After a couple days off, the Bruins then travel down the Beltway to Georgetown, a team still left with a bitter aftertaste from their opening weekend trip to Florida, where the Hoyas failed to score in a draw with FIU and a 2-0 loss to South Florida. Maryland will host the always tough Akron Monday night after the Zips’ Friday night visit to Georgetown.

Friday night will also see Charlotte take on No. 11 Coastal Carolina, No. 2 Virginia host Tulsa and No. 17 UMBC host Ohio State. No. 19 UC Santa Barbara visits New Mexico and No. 13 UC Irvine visits No. 3 Creighton to highlight Sunday’s slate of 57 matches.

Other games I’ve circled on the calendar this week include a pair of big rivalry matches in Kentucky and South Carolina: Ninth-ranked Clemson will host No. 11 Coastal Carolina on Monday night and Kentucky will visit No. 15 Louisville on Tuesday.
