Summer Break: Where college stars are spending their summer

PDL

With the spring season wrapped up and finals just about over for college students across the country, many of the veteran stars of college soccer are shifting gears and returning home to play for their hometown Premier Development League and National Premier Soccer League teams while a select few of the rising stars of the game are awaiting invites to play in the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.

For college standouts and MLS 2014 draft prospects like Maryland’s Patrick Mullins and Georgetown’s Steve Neumann, the summer season offers a chance to stay sharp in the summer as they prepare for what they hope will be a final college season capped by a return to the College Cup (Dec. 13 and 15 at PPL Park).” For others, it’s a chance to impress scouts and compete against some of the top amateurs in the country.

While most college standouts spend the summer with a PDL club, Mullins, the reigning Hermann Trophy winner, will suit up for the NPSL’s New Orleans Jesters. The Jesters are making their debut in the league after leaving the PDL last year. Mullins was a top prospect a year ago and would have gone high in the draft had he not elected to return to Maryland for one season and is a goal-scoring machine.

Here’s where some other college standouts are spending their summer:
