Ricardo Velazco leaving Louisville early for Real Monarchs

Louisville junior Ricardo Velazco is on the Real Monarchs squad that was unveiled on Friday, making it official that the Cardinals leading scorer over the last two seasons will not be returning.

Velazco led the Cardinals with 7 goals and 9 assists in his first season in 2013 after transferring from Division II Cal State San Bernardino and was second in scoring in the fall with 6 goals and 5 assists.

Prior to college, Velazco played with the Real Salt Lake Academy and was with Real Salt Lake in the preseason.

He joins Marquette junior Coco Navarro as an early departure from college on the inaugural Real Monarchs roster. Navarro scored 5 goals and delivered 6 assists in two seasons with Marquette.

The Real Monarchs roster includes college seniors Victor Rodriguez and Riley McGovern of New Mexico, UAB defenderĀ Darion Copeland, USF midfielder and RSL draft pick Lucas Baldin, Cal State Fullerton midfielder Garrett Losee and Notre Dame forward Leon Brown.

The roster is rounded out by Marvin Baumgartner, Lennon Celestino, Alec Sundly, Etiandro Tavares and Emery Welshman.
