Red Bulls announce homegrown signings of Allen, Etienne
The New York Red Bulls made official the signings of Georgetown senior Brandon Allen and Virginia freshman Derrick Etienne as homegrown players on Monday.
Goal.com had previously reported the signings of Allen and Etienne along with Maryland senior Mael Corboz and Georgetown junior Alex Muyl.
Allen was on the initial list of invitees to the MLS Combine indicating that he might not sign a homegrown deal – another team in MLS was reportedly trying to dispute his eligibility – but Monday’s announcement means he is officially no longer in the draft pool. The senior from Old Bridge set a Georgetown career scoring record with his 50th goal this season.
Etienne played with NYRB II in the USL as an amateur prior to his one season in Charlottesville, where he played more of a reserve role, scoring two goals and adding an assist.
The signings give the Red Bulls the largest class of active homegrowns with Sean Davis (Duke), Connor Lade (St. John’s), Matt Miazga, Tyler Adams and Santiago Castano on the roster.
