Oakland adds U.S. youth international, Chicago Fire Academy defender
Oakland men’s soccer program is adding a U.S. youth international forward, a Chicago Fire Academy defender, a Dayton transfer and a former West Ham United trialist.
Forward Nash Popovic, who has had call-ups with the U.S. U18 and U20 teams, is transferring closer to home after a rookie season at St. Louis that saw him play five games and start once. The Rochester Hills, Michigan native played club soccer for Vardar Academy.
Defender Alex Ofeimu also played for Vardar Academy and for the Chicago Fire Academy. He’s joining the Oakland program after graduating a semester early from high school.
Goalkeeper Alex Meny is also joining the program early. The Phillipsburg, N.J. native had a trial with West Ham United while playing club soccer for FA Euro.
Defender Connor Ballantyne is transferring to Oakland after a season at Dayton. He played 3 games and started 1 for the Flyers in 2015 and was listed as a four-star recruit entering college. Like Ofeimu and Popovic, he also played club soccer for Vardar Academy.
