Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback’s new commerce secretary was until a couple weeks ago the head coach of the Ave Maria University men’s soccer team.

Antonio Soave was appointed head coach of the Florida private Catholic school’s soccer team in June, but the Gyrenes struggled with a 1-15 record. He coached Franciscan University of Steubenville in NCAA Division III for a season in 2008. In his playing days, he played Division 1 soccer at North Texas for a season, spent time with the Detroit Express and was part of the U.S. Youth World Cup team in 1983.
