Grand Canyon opens stadium with record-setting crowd
Grand Canyon University christened their brand new stadium with a record-setting crowd and a 4-2 win over UCF on Friday night.
Some 6,402 fans packed the new stadium, shattering the record for largest crowd ever for a college soccer game in the state of Arizona.
Junior college transfer Khadim Seye led the Lopes with a brace and Damian German and Niki Jackson contributed goals for the home side.
Grand Canyon wasn’t the only team opening a new facility. Temple christened their new facility near campus in North Philadelphia with a 3-0 win over Manhattan in front of 878 fans, which is more than half the total fans the team drew to their venue on a suburban campus last season.
