Former Hermann Trophy winner named head coach at Northeastern

Former MAC Hermann Trophy winner and national champion Chris Gbandi has been named the head coach at Northeastern.

Gbandi, who won a national title and Hermann Trophy with UConn in 2000, coached Dartmouth to a 24-11-3 mark and two NCAA Tournament appearances over two seasons. He takes over for Brian Ainscough, who stepped down as coach in November after 11 seasons.

Prior to coaching at Dartmouth, Gbandi served as an assistant at Holy Cross for two seasons and as the assistant director of soccer operations at UConn for one season before that. The Bong Mines, Liberia native was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft and played for FC Dallas from 2002-2007, Haugesund in Norway for two seasons and ended his career in the USL with Miami FC in 2010.
